Wesley LePatner, a 44-year-old senior executive at Blackstone who managed the firm’s $53 billion real-estate investment fund, was among the victims of the mass shooting in Manhattan that left multiple people dead.
LePatner, a key figure in one of the world’s largest real-estate portfolios, was fatally shot during the attack that shook New York City on Tuesday. Authorities confirmed his death as part of an ongoing investigation into the shooter’s motives and targets.
Blackstone issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the loss: “We are heartbroken by the tragic death of our colleague Wesley LePatner. He was an extraordinary leader, mentor, and friend whose impact will be felt for years to come.”
The gunman, who killed four people in total and reportedly planned an attack on the NFL headquarters, was apprehended shortly after the rampage. Police said LePatner appeared to be an unintended victim of the violence.
