S.P.O.N.S.O.R. (SCOP) and Omera Renewable Energy Sign Strategic Partnership to Unlock Climate Finance

S.P.O.N.S.O.R. and Omera Renewable Energy MoU signing

Luxembourg / Dhaka – 21 July 2026S.P.O.N.S.O.R. (SCOP), the Luxembourg-based AI-powered climate finance platform, and Omera Renewable Energy Limited, the solar arm of Bangladesh’s East Coast Group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly explore the development and financing of renewable energy projects in Bangladesh.

The partnership combines Omera’s strong local project development capabilities with S.P.O.N.S.O.R.’s international expertise in climate finance, blended finance, and institutional capital mobilisation, creating a pathway to accelerate Bangladesh’s transition towards a cleaner and more resilient energy future.

Bangladesh stands at a pivotal moment in its energy transition. Electricity demand continues to grow by approximately 6–7% annually, with peak demand expected to increase significantly by 2030. To meet this growing demand sustainably, the Government of Bangladesh has committed to generating 20% of its electricity from renewable energy by 2030 and 30% by 2040. Achieving these targets, however, will require substantial investment and access to international climate finance.

According to Bangladesh’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), the country requires approximately USD 116.18 billion in climate mitigation investment, of which USD 90.23 billion is expected to come from international sources. While investor appetite for climate infrastructure continues to grow globally, many renewable energy projects in emerging markets face challenges in reaching financial close due to limited access to sophisticated project preparation, financial structuring, and investment readiness.

Through this strategic collaboration, S.P.O.N.S.O.R. and Omera Renewable Energy aim to bridge this gap by jointly identifying, structuring, and preparing renewable energy projects to meet international investment standards. By combining local market knowledge with global climate finance expertise, the partnership seeks to improve project bankability and expand access to development finance institutions (DFIs), multilateral climate funds, commercial lenders, infrastructure investors, and ESG-focused institutional capital.

The collaboration will explore opportunities across multiple renewable energy technologies, including solar photovoltaic (utility-scale and rooftop), battery energy storage systems (BESS), and other sustainable energy infrastructure that supports Bangladesh’s long-term energy security and decarbonization objectives.

This Memorandum of Understanding represents a strategic framework for cooperation rather than a financing commitment or guarantee of project implementation. Future projects will be developed and evaluated independently based on their technical, commercial, environmental, and financial merits.

As Bangladesh continues strengthening its position as one of South Asia’s fastest-growing economies, partnerships that combine international capital mobilisation with local execution capabilities will play an increasingly important role in delivering the scale of investment required for the country’s energy transition.
